A Traditional Cuban Wedding

The formal attire of a guayabera shirt is known for being worn at Cuban
Weddings. There are many other traditions you can expect to observe at a
traditional Cuban wedding if you are going to be attending one in the near future. As
with many American weddings, Cuban weddings maintain the tradition of bringing
“something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” on the
big day. This is a fun tradition that each bride should carry on and wear as part of
her big day. This tradition symbolizes good luck. You can also expect many of the
men and boys to be wearing guayabera shirts on the big day!
Traditionally the bride’s family pays for the wedding and everyone they
know will be in attendance. Guest lists for the wedding day usually range upwards
of 100 guests. Something unique to Cuban weddings are the “money dance.” During
the reception, the bride will dance with different guests and the men will then pin
money to her dress to help contribute to the newlywed’s honeymoon. It is not
uncommon for Cuban weddings to go late into the night. There is always an
abundance of food and drinks and no one wants to cut the party short.
