To people who are unfamiliar with guayabera shirts, they may all seem very much alike. True they all have the same basic design but that does not mean that choosing the right one is always easy. Indeed it can be challenging. To help you choose the right shirt based on the occasion, your needs and individual tastes here are our suggestions.
Material: Guayabera shirts can be made from a variety of materials including 100% linen, Pima cotton and poly/cotton blend shirts. Here are some characteristics of each of these materials:
• 100% Linen Guayabera shirts: This is the most common material used to make guayabera shirts. This is because linen is notoriously light weight and cooling. Thus, shirts made from 100% linen are often worn for outdoor events such as beach parties or weddings and other kinds of gatherings.
• 100% Pima cotton Guayabera shirts: Pima cotton is somewhat less breathable than 100% linen. Therefore, if you will be attending an outdoor event you may wish to go with the former over a guayabera made of cotton.
• Poly/Cotton blend Guayaberas: Cotton/poly blended guayaberas and clothing in general tend to be strong and durable. Shirts that are made of this material often lend themselves to a variety of colors as well.
Style: Of course guayabera shirts come in a variety of styles while adhering to the same basic design. If you are attending a formal event you may wish to wear a guayabera that is embroidered with gold stitching. Shirts that are elegant in design and style are just as practical and comfortable as shirts that have little or no fancy stitching.
Size: Guayaberas come in a variety of sizes. There are even guayabera shirts for kids and for women. Ideally, the shirt should be loose fitting so that one has the option of tucking the shirt in or wearing it outside the trousers. A guayabera shirt should never be binding on you.
Color: Although many of the pictures you will see of guayabera shirts depict them as always being white, they do come in a variety of colors including light pastel colors such as yellow, pink, light blue, etc. Which color you choose is very much a matter of personal preference as the color bears little effect on the price.
The occasion: Again, for lounging around on a warm summer day you may wish to go with a simple shirt that has little or no ornate embroidery. If you plan to attend a wedding, for example, you may wish to choose a shirt that has embroidery. The designs and patterns of guayabera shirts can be quite intricate.
This basic information about guayabera shirts should give people who have never worn one enough information to make a purchase. However, if you still have questions about any of our products feel free to contact us.
